NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY VILES & CRIMMIN STUDENT HOUSING BUILDING

Location: Las Vegas NM

103,000 sf

Owner: New Mexico Highlands University

Opened in 2009, this state-of-the-art Viles & Crimmin Residence Hall houses 276 students in 89 spacious apartment-style suites that feature private bedrooms, a kitchenette, living room, and bathrooms. Two outdoor landscaped plazas and a third-floor terrace are also part of the design. The first floor has a common area game room. There are washers and dryers and common community kitchens on the second and third floors.

The three-story Spanish Colonial style building is located in the heart of the university’s student housing core and provides interior spaces encouraging student interaction with landscaped areas that reinforce visual and pedestrian connections to the greater campus.

The student housing has numerous green features, and is the first campus residential building in New Mexico to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, a high-level measure of sustainability for water and energy efficiency, materials and resource use, and indoor environmental quality.  The building incorporates recycled, regional, and low-emitting materials and uses less water and energy while increasing daylight and views.

Received the “Designed to Earn the EnergyStar” designation in the Top 10% ranking
