Project Progress Update: CNM Trades Building

Franken Construction is happy to share a progress update of the new state-of-the-art Skilled Trades Facility at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) Main Campus. This groundbreaking project, which began on June 29, 2023, marks a significant milestone in advancing trades education and training for New Mexico’s future workforce.

Project Overview

The new Skilled Trades Facility, spanning 60,750 square feet, is designed to accommodate CNM’s Carpentry, Electrical, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Industrial Automation Technology (Mechatronics), and Welding programs. This $58.7 million investment is a testament to CNM’s enduring commitment to providing high-caliber trades education, aligning with the college’s mission since its inception in 1965.

Construction Progress

Since the groundbreaking ceremony, Franken Construction has made significant strides in bringing this vision to life. We are happy to share that a key milestone has been reached with the progress of the first building structure. This is a result of meticulous planning, coordination, and the collective effort of our dedicated team.

One of the highlights of the construction phase has been the successful concrete pour and the implementation of tilt-up panels. These panels form the building’s structural walls, providing both stability and flexibility for future modifications. The process involves pouring concrete into large molds, allowing it to cure, and then tilting the panels into their vertical positions. This method ensures a robust and durable structure while expediting the construction timeline.

As we continue to make progress, the focus will shift to interior work, including the development of modernized and high-tech learning environments. These spaces will provide unparalleled flexibility, allowing CNM to adapt quickly to evolving industry needs and technological advancements. The facility is expected to be completed by early 2025, aligning with our commitment to delivering on time and within budget.

Community Impact

This project not only enhances CNM’s ability to produce a skilled trades workforce but also supports the broader community by fostering partnerships with local schools and businesses. The facility will offer dual-credit opportunities, apprenticeships, and internships, creating a comprehensive pathway from education to employment. Moreover, community partners will be able to utilize the facility to upskill their employees, ensuring they remain competitive in the ever-changing job market.

Franken Construction extends heartfelt thanks to CNM, our architectural partners Vigil and Associates, and Architekton, as well as the community and state for their support. Together, we are building a future where skilled trades professionals thrive, contributing to the economic prosperity of New Mexico.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make strides on this transformative project.
