This 41,000 SF remodel and addition to the existing academic building on the Early College Opportunities (ECO) campus includes new classrooms, computer labs, science labs, maker’s space media center, and commons area. The addition will become the new main entrance to the building and house the administration offices, reception area, and nurse’s office. Because adjacent buildings on the ECO campus must remain operational during construction, site safety was a paramount concern. The Franken Construction team worked directly with SFPS and the architect during preconstruction activities to develop a comprehensive safety plan that would maintain access to adjacent buildings and ensure the continued operation of the Busy Bugs daycare located on campus. In addition to safety concerns, Franken Construction provided constructability reviews, cost estimates, and an “Added Value” matrix to suggest savings in constructability or alternative materials during preconstruction to ensure the design fully encapsulates SFPS’ program within the desired budget.
